" Las Pumas " Wild Felines Refuge
Location: " Las Pumas Wild Felines Refuge " is located very close to the City of Cañas, on the Province of Guanascaste, at Northeast of Costa Rica. At 185 Kilometers away from San Jose City, 5 kilometers away from Cañas and 45 kilometers away from Liberia. Very close to many important tourist destinies such as paradisiacal beaches, volcanoes, and National Parks.
This 25 hectares Private Refuge, seeks to help to the animals rescued by local Environment Authorities from illegal animal traders or unconscious people who have them at home and eventually put them back on the wild or offer them a suitable life on captivity. Many of the these rescued animals are Big Felines like cougars, or jaguars but there are also many birds such as Parrots, Toucanoes, Scarlet Macaws, and some reptiles like snakes or iguanas, between others.
Weather: The average temperature is between 26ª and 32º Celsius. The Summer Season goes from December to May. While Rainy Season is going from June to November. It use to rain moderately.
Flora: The forest is dry tropical.
Fauna: the area offers a large diversity of fauna including many kind of birds, some Felines, and other kind of mammalians such as Slots, Monkeys, White Tail Deer, or Anteater.
Main attractions: The Refuge is a very active Wild Life Rescue Center and offers a large population of Animals including jaguars, cougars, other big felines, Slots, Monkeys, Deer, Toucanoes, Parrots, between others.
The Refuge dispose of a team of Veterinarians and Biologist who watch for the best living conditions of animals.
The Refuge is also very well located, near to many area attractions including many popular beaches like Playa Grande, Brasilito, Conchal and Tamarindo. At any of these locations is possible to have access to all the services and spend a nice Holidays. Other Area Attractions are the Volcan Tenorio National Park, the Palo Verde National Park, " Las Heliconias " Private Reserve, and the " Lomas Barbudal " Refuge. Additionally, into the property is possible to watch a large variety of birds and some mammalians.
The shelter disposes of the next services:
· Electricity.
· Potable Water
· A nice Guest House with 2 bedrooms, 3 single beds, private bath and fully equipped kitchen

Goals of Project
* Give a proper attention to the wounded or maltreated Animals rescued by environment authorities and try to reinstall them to their natural environment.
* Cooperate with the environmental education of Project`s visitors and try to conscious them about the importance to keep the animals on the Wild and try to reduce the impact of the different menaces affect to them.
Main Duties of Volunteers
* Attention to Visitors and Guided Walks around the property.
* Building and Installation of Signs
* Cleaning of the Animal Cages.
* Feeding of Animals.
* Teaching of Environmental Educational to Visitors or local Students.
* Maintenance labors at Buildings or any other installations of Refuge.
The work shift is of 6 hours daily, 6 days a week.
The candidate to participate at Program must to:
1 Respect the " Voluntary Work " rules.
2 Fill the " Offer of Voluntary Service " Form

1 A Basic Spanish Level
2 Good physical condition
3 A big loving for Wild Animals
Meals description
Mainly Rice, beans, potatoes, vegetable salads, chicken, beef or pork, eggs, and fruits.
What to Bring
Blanket, sheets, Mosquitoes Repellent, Sun Lotion, Tooth Paste and Brush, Soap, Deodorant, Comfortable and Fresh Wear and comfortable and closed Shoes.
What's included: Accommodation on Single or Double Room with private bathroom, 3 daily mealtimes. Volunteering Work under supervision of staff of Refuge. Airport Pick Up In/Out on scheduled arrival/ departures dates only, Transfer to Bus Terminal, Bus Ticket to Project- One Way, Certificate of Participation, C.R. Souvenir and taxes.
Not Included: International air fare, CR departure taxes ( $26 per person ),Airport Charge ( $ 9 per person ), meals and drinks not specified in the itinerary, and gratuities or extra costs associated with changes in your itinerary for reasons beyond our control.
